I remember when I was in high school I thought I would never wear lipstick, that it was for older women and it would go out of style. I convinced myself that lipgloss was the lip product of my generation, and even when I got older, lipstick would never be part of my beauty routine. If only I had known!
My favorite lipsticks are pink-nude, beige-pink or mauve shades, all very natural. Every now and then I’ll rock a red or hot pink, but mostly I like my neutrals! MAC Velvet Teddy is a deep-tone beige. It’s still in the neutral realm, but it is slightly different than everything else I own.
Velvet Teddy is a great lip for everyday wear. Nude lipsticks tend to look too much like concealer on me since my skin is so fair, so this is great because it’s a little deeper, almost brown toned, and doesn’t wash me out. I like to wear this on days that I put a little color into my eyeshadow to balance the look out.
MAC’s matte and retro matte lipstick apply creamy but look matte, making them easy to apply to the lips. Even though they look dry on my lips (in the pictures you see tell how dry they are!) they never feel uncomfortable because it’s a thick formula. The key part is, the lipstick doesn’t dry out my lips or make them look drier than they already are.
The matte formula wears longer than their creamsheen formula, but I wouldn’t specifically call it long-wear. Paired with a good lipliner, you will get about 5-6 hours out of this lipstick. I wish it was a touch more hydrating, but other than that, this is true love.
MAC Velvet Teddy ($17) is one of my favorite lipsticks right now.
