While it might not seem like the appropriate time of year to bust out the brown lip shades with the weather warming up for spring, I’m a firm believe that the seasons should inspire your color palette, not dictate them! ColourPop released Lippie Stix in Grunge ($5) with their Fall 2015 launch, but I just got my hands on this recently. I’ve always been a huge fan of a 90s brown lip, and this shade is perfection.
I love ColourPop‘s matte formulation of the Lippie Stix because it behaves so well on my dry lips. Grunge is creamy, smooth, very easy to apply, and it doesn’t dry out my skin. I have a few other stix in the matte finish, and this one has a little extra satin slip to it that I really like. Plus, look at that full-coverage color!
I tried Ultra Matte Lip last year, knowing it would probably be a poor choice for me. It has an ultra-flat, matte finish and emphasizes the lines in my dry lips. If you’re in the same boat as me, stick with the matte Lippie Stix. It’s not long-wearing, but it lasts me from breakfast to lunch at least.
The shade isn’t a rich, chocolate brown like Kylie Lip Kit in True Brow K but more of a mid-tone, muted brown. One thing I can’t stand are ColourPop’s lip swatches on their website because they are always so misleading! The lips on the product page look like a dusty brownish purple, so I took this photo in daylight so you can see it’s a cool toned brown, but it doesn’t have much plum to it like they describe.
Lippie Stix are only $5, making them incredibly affordable. I usually wait for some sort of promo and I stock up on a bunch of shades at once. My two favorite shades are Lumière (dusty mauve pink) and LBB (rich plum).
