My philosophy on foundation is it should look undetectable, my skin but better, and it needs to last through the work day. Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation ($43) is a medium to buildable coverage foundation that’s designed to have a second skin texture and give you a flawless complexion on and off camera.
I’m impressed at the wide shade range! It’s available in 40 shades so your match has to be in there somewhere. I’m wearing Y215, Yellow Alabaster. I tried Y210 Pink Alabaster and Y225 Marble, but Pink Alabaster was too ghosty and Marble was too deep.
The foundation applies well with a brush and evens out my complexion, getting rid of the pink spots across the bridge of my nose. It’s definitely medium coverage, you can still see skin flaws through a first layer. It’s a little buildable, but you won’t achieve full coverage with this.
When I apply the Ultra HD Foundation without a primer, it breaks down on my nose and forehead because of my oil production. It looks really uneven by the end of my work day. I tried the Mattifying Primer, but I honestly think it made the problem worse. However, the Hydrating Primer came to my rescue! If I don’t use the Hydrating or Nourishing Primers, this foundation just doesn’t last in my t-zone at all.
Use a very clean brush when applying, because it can look a little streaky. I’m always extra careful to blend it out. I have a hunch this would apply much better with a Beauty Blender, but I haven’t tested out this theory.
While the foundation truly does look flawless on camera, I can’t say the same for off-camera. It doesn’t hold up on my skin for a full 8 hours, even with my beloved Make Up For Ever Hydrating Primer. I’ll continue to use this foundation for shorter wear times and for filming my YouTube videos, but I can’t say this will become a daily go-to for me.
