I’m constantly on the hunt for my perfect volumizing mascara. I’ve tried CoverGirl Full Bloom, YSL False Lashes Effect, Maybelline The Rocket, and many many more, but just haven’t found my go-to yet. CoverGirl sent me The Super Sizer to test out, and I was immediately antsy to try it because of the 400% more volume claim and the unique wand.
Application & Formula
This mascara is very wet, which makes it great for building up the layers but it can also make it tricky to apply. I have to let my top lashes dry before I apply to my bottom lashes or else I’ll get nice little pinprick spots on my brow bone, and I don’t even have long lashes (it does lengthen very well!).
The inverted wand took awhile to get used to. Normally a mascara wand it thicker towards the base and thinner at the tip, but with this wand the bristles are longest at the tip, making it difficult to apply to my lower lashes without depositing too much color.
Also, the brush is more or less flat on two sides and spiky on two sides. The instructions say to rotate the “Lash Styler” as you stroke the brush through the lashes, which is easier said than done! I find it’s easiest to apply with the flat side first to deposit color, then use the bristle side to distribute the color.
Results & Wear
Maybe due to the fact that I am a poor Lash Styler twirler, I find this mascara groups my lashes together, making them appear thick but also making it appear as if I have fewer lashes. In the picture below you can clearly see how it sticks several lashes together, so it is thick at the base. At first I was enjoying this mascara, but the formula seems to have become thicker over time, and the clumping is worse than ever.
It lengthens quite nicely, and the shade Very Black is indeed very black.
If you’re truly intrigued by this mascara like I was, I think it’s inexpensive enough that you should go for it. Who knows, you may be a great wand twirler. But for me? I’ll pass this next time I’m at the drugstore.
