2015 has inarguably been the year of the “no-makeup makeup look.” As much as I love makeup, there are definitely days, like today, where I want to wear as little as possible to give my skin a break. One makeup item I rarely leave the house without is mascara. Aveda Mosscara is the best un-mascara I’ve tried so far.
Application & Formula
The full brush combs through the lashes well, evenly coating each lash. It’s the perfect length and width for the size of my eyes which makes it easy to apply to my lower lashes as well. The formula is not too wet and not too dry, so the color transfers easily from the brush to my lashes. Mosscara is formulated with Iceland Moss which is known for its soothing and moisturizing properties.
Results & Wear
The mascara lengthens and slightly thickens the appearance of my lashes while looking amazingly natural. The first time I applied the mascara, I thought, “Wow, this doesn’t do much of anything.” But for that reason, I love it now. For years I’ve use volumizing, blackest-black mascara, doing everything possible to give myself mega lashes. Using 02 Earth, a natural-looking shade, has been refreshing, and I’m loving the look more and more.
The mascara leaves my lashes soft and never spiky. While the mascara is flake-free, I do find it leaves a little residue on the skin along my lower lash line, probably because the formula is not water resistant in any way. If you have oily lids, this may not work well for you.
I will absolutely buy this mascara again. It has become my go-to mascara on the days when I want to wear little makeup and enhance my natural features.
Aveda Mosscara ($18) is available in two shades, Black Forest and Earth, at Aveda.com.Aveda sent me this mascara for the purpose of testing and reviewing.
