Last summer I was all about Karora Gradual Tan Lotion, so when they sent me the Tinted Self Tan Mist to try I set it on my shelf and forgot about it. Fast forward to Memorial Day weekend 2015, and man, was I in need of a little color.. fast! I grabbed the tanning mist and went to town.
With other tanning products I’ve used in the past, there’s always been a little bit of a learning curve, but with this mist I jumped right in and felt very comfortable using it. The velour mitt makes all the difference! You spray the mist on the mitt and rub over your body. The mist is a thin consistency, which makes it easy to blend, and the mitt is so smooth it glides over your skin.
The sprayer is perfect. I’ve used tanning mousse in the past that ended up staining my bathroom counter and dripping all over my shower, but this one is perfect. It gives off a fine mist and never drips.
The mist has a subtle tint which serves as a color guide to show where you have and haven’t applied product yet. I don’t think the tint gives instant tan gratification, it’s very subtle, but it’s something. There is a light, pleasant scent when you first apply, but as the color develops I do smell more and more of self tanner. Xavier says he can’t smell it on me, but I can.
The product dries fairly quickly. It’s long enough so you can blend out the color, but quick enough that by the time I was done with my last limb, the rest of my body was ready to go. The skin felt like it normally does, no stickiness or tackiness whatsoever, so I went on with my day as usual.
The color took several hours to develop. I applied at 11 am and didn’t see big color impact until 5 pm or so. The instructions say to avoid water for up to 8 hours, but I didn’t wash the color off until the next day. The color, a believable golden honey, came out very even. My skin is incredibly fair, so the tan on my is more on the light side of light/medium.
I hate to admit it, but I think I prefer the Tinted Self Tan Mist over Gradual Tan Lotion. The lotion is nice because you can build it up over a few days and try to correct any patches you may have missed, but I love that the mist dries quickly and give me the perfect amount of color in one go.
