When I first opened the YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils golden box, I was struck by how beautiful the mascara tube was. Simple, chic. I thought this HAD to be an amazing mascara because.. because YSL! Sadly, after weeks of using this “false lash effect” mascara, I have to say admit that this mascara is nothing extraordinary.
This mascara is newly reformulated to not dry out while conditioning lashes with their Lash Care formula. The mascara promises “absolute dramatic lashes in a single stroke” with intense volume, color and care.
The nylon brush is long but thin, making it easy to apply color to the base of the lashes and to the bottom lashes. However, as you can see from the video, “dramatic lashes in a single stroke” is not at all what comes outta this tube. Not even after two coats. I have to build layer after layer to build volume, but it never quite gets to what I would consider to be a false lash effect.
When wearing this mascara, my lashes get a little droopy throughout the day. I’m guessing this is from all of the oils in this mascara from the Lash Care formula, but that’s just a guess. The formula has become slightly thicker over time but has not dried out at all- zero flaking.
So, while this flake-free mascara does make my lashes look good after a few coats, it’s nothing that I would consider amazing, and nothing I would consider paying $30+ for. I’m willing to go for a splurge item every now and again, but this will not be one of those products.
