Review | Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Unapologetic Swatch

I have been absolutely loving my Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic since I bought it last month, so I had to share it with you. This balm is supposed to provide vibrant color with a triple butter complex to moisturizze for a balm-like feel. Here’s how I think it measures up.

Color

Unapologetic is a vibrant, saturated, coral pink that is verging on neon.

Application & Finish

It promises a matte finish, and I think it lives up to that claim, but it’s not an intense matte. It has a creamy look and feel that makes it easy to apply and very wearable and comfortable on the lips.

Wear

The triple butter complex of Shea Butter, Coconut Butter and Mango Butter give the balm a smooth, gliding application and a creamy feel on the lips. The creamy feel only lasts for a couple hours though, and it does become drier throughout the day.

If you have excessively dry, dehydrated lips, I wouldn’t recommend this product for you. The product clung to the dry cracks in my lips. I think the moisturizing formula helped my lips from becoming drier than they already were, but it wasn’t hydrating enough that the dry patches went away.

I got 6 solid hours of wear out of the balm before I wanted to reapply/remove. It faded a bit, but the color started so vibrant, you could hardly tell. The color wore off the most on the outer corners of my lips and on the inner rim of my lips. It become dry to the point that even though I could have gotten another hour or two of great color wear, I had to remove and rehydrate my lips.

Packaging

The size of the Revlon balm packaging is extremely excessive. As you can see in my video review, when you twist up the product all the way, you can see the stick of color is actually quite small. It makes me think the packaging is just a way to make it look bigger than it really is, which bums me out because it’s really chunky and takes up a lot of space.

The Verdict

If you have normal or slightly dry lips and you’re looking for a balm with saturated color and a matte finish, this would work great for you. It could be more conditioning and hydrating, but if I hate to trade moisture for long-wear, I’ll take the long-wear.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm ($9.49) is available in 10 shades.
