3LAB Aqua BB SPF 40 is a BB cream in a compact. A compact! BB creams tout various skin benefits, hydration, coverage, anti-aging properties, broad spectrum SPF, but this is the first cushion compact I’ve tried. It’s brilliant really, because sunscreen should be applied at least every two hours, and how often do you carry around a tube of liquid foundation or sunscreen?
Aqua BB SPF 40 provides sheer coverage with a luminous finish. Seriously, luminous. I hate to say it makes my skin glow because that’s so cliché, but it’s true! Definitely not for excessively oily skin, but perfect my normal to dry skin. It does a good job at covering my redness, but I would still say coverage is on the sheer side.
So liquid in a compact, how does that work? The product comes in two small refill pods that you pop into your compact. Each pod has a lid that snaps on as well as an airtight seal that you break with you first use it. When you lift the lid, there is a white sponge-like material. You press your sponge applicator into it and the liquid comes to the top. Miraculously, the product doesn’t spill out. Not quite sure how that works, but it does.
The compact is a little bulky, something slimmer would be nice. It comes with a smooth sponge applicator that I love. It really blends the BB cream nicely and doesn’t hold too much of the product. I’ve also tried this with a brush, and that works well, but it needs to be a small, dense brush.
The formula features skin nourishing ingredients, like rose water and sodium hyaluronate, and anti-aging ingredients like Matrixyl 3000 and Beta-Glucan. The SPF is Titanium Dioxide, so if you avoid chemical sunscreen, this could be your product.
Shade #01 is slightly peach-toned, but it’s sheer and blendable enough that it works on my fair skin. If you’re very fair, you may want to try in person before purchasing.
