A few weeks ago I shared the Influenster Mary Kay VoxBox with you, so I thought it was about time for a follow up with product details and my thoughts. Overall, I’m quite impressed with the selection of items. This wasn’t a brand I really thought much about before, but now I think I’ll have to reconsider.
Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara (I Heart Black, $15)
This was my favorite product from the bunch. The flexible brush easily separates and evenly coats your lashes. The water resistant formula helps build up the lashes and hold a curl, but the formula is still easy enough to remove. I didn’t experience any flaking, and at the end of the day it still looked just as good as if I had just applied it.
Mary Kay Cream Eye Color (Apricot Twist, $14)
This was another good item. The color is this phenomenal peachy-gold with subtle shimmer. It’s sheer but buildable. I personally wish it wasn’t so sheer, but you really can pack it on and get more intense color payoff. This applies quite will with the Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush (see below) as well as your finger. I layered powder shadows on top of it, and it did not decrease the wear time at all. I wore this all day with no creasing.
Mary Kay Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush ($10)
I didn’t test this brush with concealer, but I did try it with the Cream Eye Color many times and thought it performed very well. The brush head is very soft, and it’s thin so you can place product precisely (say that three times fast!).
Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color (Shy Blush, $12)
This blush is silky-soft and stays put throughout the day. The color payoff is great- not too intense, but not too sheer either. You don’t have to build it up or layer it to get a nice, subtle look. Shy Blush is a gorgeous peachy-pink with a light gold shimmer. Mary Kay’s website says it’s oil-absorbing as well, but I can’t speak to that since I have dry(ish) skin.
Mary Kay Bronzing Powder (Light-Medium, $18)
So this bronzer is pretty great. Being so fair, it can be difficult to find a color that isn’t too intense, but this shade provides a nice, natural, sunkissed glow. The formula is very silky, similar to the blush. It’s great for contouring because the shimmer is extremely minimal and the powder is easy to blend.
Mary Kay Translucent Loose Powder ($16)
The twist-and-lock sifter makes this item perfect for travel. You can throw it in your suitcase or your purse and not worry about all of the product sifting into the lid. It’s weightless on the skin, not drying at all, and sets my makeup to last all day. It’s sheer- you can’t tell there’s any powder on my skin. And $16 is an incredible price point.
Mary Kay Powder Brush ($16)
This item was not very impressive to me. The bristles are rough, and even after washing it, the hairs are still shedding.
Mary Kay Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator (Jet Black, $18)
I really can’t fairly judge this item because I am not an expert where cream/gel eyeliner is concerned, but I will say that this formula is flake-free, the color is the deepest matte black, and the eyeliner dries very quickly upon application. It’s good that it comes with a brush, but the brush I don’t think it optimized. A thin, angled brush would be much better.
Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss (Mango Tango, $14)
This shade looks a bit intimidating in the bottle, but it’s fairly sheer when applied. The formula is creamy and moisturizing and wears well on the lips throughout the day. The color is a bright pinky-orange with subtle shimmer.
All in all, I am quite impressed! Stand out items for me are the Lash Love Mascara, Cream Eye Color, Mineral Cheek Color, Bronzing Powder and Translucent Loose Powder. The items I could go without are the Powder Brush and Gel Eyeliner. I look forward to seeing more from Mary Kay in the future!
