It’s time to bust out the shorts and the sun dresses because summer has arrived! Of course, I say this as snow is falling outside, but that’s Denver weather for you! Just last weekend I was wearing running shorts and using the air conditioning in my car. Needless to say, I’m ready for some summer sun, and guilt-free sun at that, so I was very excited to try Karora Gradual Tan for the first time.
I’m still a bit of a tanning newbie. I’m fair, I burn easily and self tanners can be intimidating, and it doesn’t help that many of them provide an unnatural orange color. I’m not looking to hit Level Bronze Goddess or anything, I just like a nice sunkissed hint of color after my legs have been hiding in jeans all winter long. This is why gradual tanner is right up my alley. Karora Gradual Tan provides buildable color, so you can control the deepness of the tan and the coverage very easily.
The first thing I noticed about the tanning lotion was the wonderful scent. It’s a sweet, citrus scent that reminds me vaguely of Starbursts. Nice change of pace! The scent does gradually fade, over the period of a couple hours, and then is replaced with the traditional self-tanner scent. I wish the nice scent lasted a bit longer, but I always apply the tanner an hour or so before bed, and then I shower off in the morning, so it didn’t affect me much.
The formula is very creamy and smooth. It glides easily over the skin and is quickly absorbed into the skin. It’s great as far as a lotion goes. I have dry skin, but my arms and legs feel soft and moisturized after using it. It has jojoba, coconut oil, rosemary leaf extract, vitamin E and argan oil which are all very nourishing.
Since it’s a gradual tanner, the white lotion does apply clear, so you need to be careful about spreading it all over. The first time I applied it I didn’t apply enough lotion to the backs of my arms, and it was apparent after the color had developed. I also forgot to wash my hands after applying, so I had too much color on my palms. I also need to work on blending in the color around my wrists and ankles. Second time was a breeze.
The color was impressive. It looks like my own skin, a very natural summer glow. It was also impressive how much color I got from just one application. It was enough that I was noticeably tanner to myself, but not enough that anyone commented on my color. I let a day go by before applying it again because I don’t want to get too dark. The second application was perfection for me. I personally would only apply it twice, and then I have my desired level of color. Again, I am porcelain, so if you already have light-medium skin, you may need to apply it more often.
The color has worn off very evenly for me, without any sort of exfoliation. It takes several days for it to fade away, so if you just keep applying the gradual tanning lotion every few days, you can maintain a nice glow.
Overall, this is a great gradual tanner. The initial scent is wonderful, the color is a believable bronze, and the lotion is moisturizing and nourishing. What more can you ask for?
