Breakfast is my favorite meal, but who has the time for a nice sit-down breakfast in the morning? Maybe families in commercials, but certainly not this gal. Weekday breakfasts for me usually consist of a bagel or toast eaten in my car on the way to work. I rack up quite the paper towel collection in my cup holder by the end of the week, Xavier will tell you. Toast isn’t exactly the best thing in the world on the nutrition scale or the taste scale, but it’s quick and easy, and I can eat it (fairly) mess-free in my car. Well, you know what? I just found out that there is something way better out there- Quaker Breakfast Shakes.
I’ve always been into the idea of breakfast shakes and drinks, but it’s hard to find one that is good for you AND tastes good. So many of them are grainy, slimy or thick. I used to drink a powder shake that you mixed with milk, but it was always so impossible to get it mixed in, and you ended up with gooey powder lumps. Yuck. One great thing about the Quaker Breakfast Shakes is there’s no stirring or dissolving- just shake and go. The texture is creamy and smooth, and the flavor is wonderful. It’s essentially grownup flavored milk.
Just give it a good shake, remove the foil seal, and you’re on your way. The safety seals are a little over the top- the whole top is covered in plastic as you can see in the very first picture, and then under the cap is a foil seal. Neither are particularly easy to remove, but I guess it’s good to know that no one else is getting in to my food before me!
The shakes are available in Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. I’ve tried both the chocolate and strawberry flavors, and they are so good. Chocolate is probably my favorite, but I’ve always been a huge chocolate milk fiend.
Each bottle has 8 grams of whole grain oats, 10 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber and only 200 calories. Normally I eat breakfast and a mid-morning snack, but one of these keeps me full until noon.
