I have wanted to try the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer (also known as Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer) for quite some time now, and I finally had the chance to recently thanks to the Influenster Jolly VoxBox. I received Aurora, a bright, medium pink. In some lighting, it looks a little red.
Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer (5.5 mL / $4.79 USD) has the color intensity of a lipstick, but goes on like a gloss with a smooth texture and shiny finish.
Packaging & Applicator
I really like the packaging. I like that the tube is clear so you can easily see the color. The metallic/foil lettering stands out for me. The handle is a good length, and the diamond-esque end is a nice touch.
The doe foot applicator has a slight dip so that it will hold more product. I have to say it works! There is no need to double-dip the wand during application.
When you pull out the applicator for the first time, the neck is empty. As you pull the wand out all the way, the neck fills up entirely with product. I think this is a nice security feature because you can tell if someone has opened this before you!! If you open it and the neck is already filled with product, take it back.
The product is very smooth, creamy and non-sticky. Lipsticks tend to dry my lips out, and I’m really not a gloss person, so this is a perfect between product. It is moisturizing on the lips and never feels uncomfortable. It has a shiny finish, but not high-shine, which I prefer.
I really enjoy this color. It’s not quite a hot pink, not quite a red-pink. It’s a subtle statement, if that’s a thing. I think this color is great for women who like the look of a red lip, but don’t think red is the right color for them. It’s a great pop of color and is very saturated.
The shine lasts for about 2 hours, after which it because more satin. The color lasts 3-4 hours, depending on if I’m drinking water, talking a lot (very common!), etc, because it transfers easily. I apply in the morning, and it’s still on at lunch time! This does not feather on my lips.
Unfortunately, I experienced color transfer to my teeth! It happen the first time I wore it during my Influenster Jolly VoxBox unboxing video, and I ended up having to cut out a segment of the video towards the end. I thought maybe I applied too much, but it has happened every time I have worn it. It’s such a bright color, that it is very noticeable. It is unfortunate, because this is a deal breaker for me. I’ve read several reviews, and quite a few people have mentioned this problem, but we still seem to be in the minority.
Except for the color transfer on my teeth, I really enjoyed this product. The color and the consistency are a home run. Since the teeth issue doesn’t seem to be a problem for most, I would still highly encourage you to try this out, even though I will not be purchasing more. Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer is very affordable, at only $4.79 USD.
I received the Jolly VoxBox complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
