Trend Watch: Complementary Nail Polish Colors
We’re familiar with color theory in the makeup world – I’ve seen enough blue-eye palettes to last a lifetime – so there should be nothing strange seeing it hit the nail world, especially since the accent ring finger has become so popular. It’s the perfect place to sport a complementary color.

Complementary colors are pairs of colors that are of “opposite” hue on the color wheel. When placed next to each other, complimentary colors make each other appear brighter. The Julep Nail Polishes above are a great example: orange and blue:
Mischa: Cherry scarlet micro-shimmer.
Melanie: Pastel indigo metallic chrome. 100% of proceeds from this product will be donated to support a job training scholarship for a human trafficking survivor. Read more about Julep and the anti-trafficking fight.
Mischa could be a new pedicure staple for me! Look at that shimmer.
Other great complementary color pairings
- Pink and Yellow-Green
- Yellow and Purple (LSU!)
- Red and Green (Christmas colors)
Happy experimenting!
These nail polishes were sent to me complimentary for the purpose of testing and reviewing.
