Storage Ideas for a Small Bedroom

Xavier and I are currently living in a 575 square-foot garden-level unit. Needless to say, we don’t have much space! The unit was pre-furnished, which is good because we needed a bed, couch, etc, but it has also been a bit annoying at times because our landlords have too much furniture in the Polly Pocket-sized place!

To top it off, this 1930s abode features a three-foot wide closet, which is barely large enough for Xavier to hang his clothes, let alone mine. As a woman.. no, as a human being, this was one of my primary concerns. My nana suggested a rolling clothes rack as the solution to our problem.

We chose a garment rack from Target. Although there were many to choose from, this was the winner because it A) was the widest available and B) It had extendable poles, so I could fit even more things on the rack! Measure out your available space before you go shopping and pay attention to dimensions.

At my dad’s suggestion, I also picked up a hanging shelf unit, which fit perfectly on the pole extension. Since we only have one small dresser, which I let Xavier use, this is perfect for my cardigans, sleepwear, and other items I don’t care to hang.

To further maximize the space, I found a laundry sorter that fit perfectly in the bottom of the garment rack. If you plan on doing this, make sure you know how wide the base of the rack is before making a purchase! My laundry sorter is a pop-and-fold dorm-style basket, so it fit into the space very easily.

How do you make the most of your space?

That is awesome! I have a hanging shelf unit myself and it is a life saver! I have a dresser as well but it’s pretty much all pjs, underwear/socks and the top drawer is my makeup.
I desperately need a laundry basket like that, it’s always a hassle organizing dirty clothes from the hamper into darks and whites.

Great tips! When I redo my room layout I will definitely look more into these items đŸ™‚

Don’t laugh, but I think you just solved some space issues I’ve been having in my classroom. How perfect this would be to hang my charts. I could use the hanging garment shelves for folders and spirals, markers, etc. A couple of crates on the bottom would be great to hold manipulatives. Hmmm…small space ideas, indeed! Thanks!!

Great! Looks that you have solve space problem..You can save space by using double or triple duty items for storage or can opt for multi function furniture.
