You might be wondering why I’d go through the effort to curl my hair when I already have curly hair! Well, my curls are tighter, frizzy, and often unpredictable. As much as I love my hair, these curling wand curls are loose, smooth, and put-together.
The NUME 19mm curling wand is incredible. On the NUME website it currently retails for $135, but usually you can find a better price on Amazon. I got mine for $90 by haggling with a kiosk saleswoman. It heats up really fast, and you only need to hold the curl for a few seconds. When I’m not talking to the camera (see below), it only takes me about 20 minutes to do all my hair, much less time than it takes to straighten my locks. If you have hair that’s much longer than mine, I recommend the next size up, the 25mm.
If your hair holds a curl okay, I recommend a light-hold hairspray to avoid crunchy hair. I spray my hair twice, once when each section is done, and then after I’ve messed with the curls. If your hair doesn’t hold a curl very well, I recommend using a medium hold hairspray. You could also spray your hair before you curl it, but I caution you to not damage your hair!
I really like Garnier Fructis Style Wonder Waves, a flexible, wave-enhancing spray. Another good one is Aussie Catch the Wave hairspray, also flexible hold. The hairspray does not need to be meant for curly or wavy hair, but I already own these for my everyday curls.
