Review: Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

During the fall I was on the hunt for a good drugstore tinted moisturizer. Previously, I made my own mixing a Garnier moisturizer with whatever foundation I had on hand, but this year I wanted the real deal. I saw a commercial for Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and thought I had found a winner. It’s a good product, but not a great one.

The first time I wore it I was pleased. Even coloring, blended in well with my skin. I use a cosmetic sponge/wedge to apply it, and it blends in very well. I was surprised when I saw my face later in the day in the natural light. Shimmer?! The moisturizer has what Aveeno refers to as “natural, light-reflecting minerals.” The shimmer isn’t overwhelming, but I do not care for it at all. It’s not “natural” for your face to shimmer, unless you’re from the Cullen family. When I think of the Aveeno brand, I think of natural, hypoallergenic products, so the shimmer doesn’t work for me.

The wear-time on this is not incredible, either. It’s a fairly think tinted moisturizer, but by lunch time there is not much coverage left, only a fine layer of the “light reflecting particles” can be seen. It has SPF 30, so I was afraid it would reek of sunscreen. It does have a slight odor, but it’s not a lingering scent. I would say it’s slightly oily, so I would only recommend this for people with dry or normal skin. I can’t say whether the product actually evens your skin tone like it claims because I don’t use this on a regular basis.

Overall, it’s a mediocre product. It was pretty expensive ($17) considering you can get Sephora brand tinted moisturizer ($21) or Clinique tinted moisturizer ($26) for just a few more dollars.

Overview

  • even coloring
  • blends easily
  • shimmer
  • thick consistency
  • poor longevity
  • only a slight odor
