I have used Coastal Scents products since 2008, and will continue to do so. The eyeshadow is not “counter” quality, but it beats most drugstore shadows. Coastal Scents is well-known for their 88 Original Palette, which I also own and use frequently. I recently got an email advertising their palettes, which were 40% off, so I decided to nab the Go Palette Beijing because of the variety of everyday, wearable colors.
Note the names used in the picture are not names Coastal Scents has given the shadows, but rather shadow “color descriptions.”
As I mentioned previously, I don’t think Coastal Scents eyeshadows are top quality, but all of their palettes are a great value, and they’re a step above drugstore brands. The shadow can be a little powdery, and you’ll notice a little fallout with the darker colors if you blend too much or pick up too much color. Use a light hand! The colors are more pigmented than you’d think, and it will help avoid the fallout problem. This is a mix of satin, shimmer, and matte finishes — yay, no glitter!
Overall, this is a very well-rounded palette in terms of colors. My favorite and most-used colors are rustic plum, pale salmon, antique mauve, light lavender taupe, and new penny.
- I’m not sure why they describe that one as “light lavender taupe,” because I don’t think it gives off any purple pigment whatsoever. It is a wonderful lid color, and I use it all the time. Think of Urban Decay’s Ruthless.
- Be warned that “new penny” is very pigmented, and a little will go a long way
- The only color I’m disappointed in is “antique egyptian gold.” I think they just call in “antique” as an excuse for its lack of pigmentation
Other than that one color, my only real complaint about this palette is that it’s called a “Go Palette,” yet it does not come with a brush or foam applicator. Just a thought.
This palette retails for $8.95 at CoastalScents.com. Coastal Scents frequently puts their palettes on sale, and it’s easy to stay in the loop by joining their newsletter. I suggest waiting for a sale to nab this guy to help cover the shipping costs. I got this palette for about $6, which came to $11 total including shipping.
