Food Truck Thursday in Tallahassee

Today, Food Truck Thursday was just what I needed. I’ve wanted to go since I heard about it in April, but either I forgot about it or I wasn’t free, or.. well, you know. Life. Today Lauren texted me and asked if I wanted to go. Heck yes!

Lauren, Jen, and Lindsey

Out of the five food trucks we decided to try Street Chefs. I got The Ritz, a meatloaf-like beef/onion patty with tomato and fresh spinach, with a side of macaroni and cheese while Lauren, Jen, and Lindsey got the grilled cheese. All the bread is made locally! They all thought the grilled cheese was good, but I felt like my sandwich was mediocre. And I know I make better macaroni and cheese. I would try Street Chefs again, but I will definitely choose another menu item.

MoBi looked interesting with a grilled cheese with BBQ pork and a soft taco with macaroni and cheese on top. Four of our friends tried it and said it was great!

And of course, a favorite of mine, Lucy & Leo’s. I criticized the cake balls for being a dollar, but after eating a full-sized cupcake I felt like I was on a sugar high! Too much after a full meal. I know better for next time.

I was there last night. The Filipino cart is delicious. I was expecting mall food fried rice, but it is way better. Also, they have some of the best spring rolls I’ve ever had.

I had a L&L oreo cupcake, but it was piled high with frosting that tasted strongly of powdered sugar and shortening. It was a little too much.

Have you been to the Cravings cart? They aren’t at Food Truck Thursdays, but I visited them at First Friday. Red Velvet waffles. -heidi

I thought $1 for a small cake ball was a little much too. However, I was super full after a full cupcake too!

Mobi was good but I was hoping for Cravings to be there too.

I’d love to check this out. Ideally as a part of another episode of “Nerd Lunch: The Web Series.” We’ll have to see though. It may just be me hitting up all these stands with or without a video camera in tow.

I have heard about this kind of thing, gourmet food trucks – i love the idea as normally food trucks don’t strike me as being particularly tasty or gourmet.
