NYC 2011 Grand Finale: Martha Stewart

I’ve been reluctant to write this final blog in the NYC series, which I first attributed to laziness. But as Lauren pointed out to me, once these posts are over then New York is officially a thing of the past. Maybe I’ve been putting this off because I like having another New York post to look forward to writing. While Spring Break was over a month ago, I’m clearly having a hard time letting go. But alas, I must share our incredible Martha experience.

Our time at The Martha Stewart show was certainly unique, to say the least. We showed up in the freezing cold (okay, maybe it wasn’t that cold, but we’re Floridians) and waited in a surprisingly long line outside. Once they let us inside, a woman at the front desk checked us in and color marked our tickets. Lauren, Sosie and I theorized about what the color could mean, since we saw some tickets were colored and some were numbered.

We waited in the briefing room where we checked our coats and filled out paperwork while the hype-man got the crowd good and rowdy. After the briefing, we waitied anxiously for our ticket color to be called. Somewhere in the middle they finally announced our color, so we rushed in line, hoping to be seating near the front. We assumed the order they called the tickets was the order we’d be seated in the audience, so we were shocked when a woman asked us to sit in the front row of the main section.

Martha Stewart
Martha, answering questions after the show and wearing the necklace Joan Rivers gave her.

Joan and Melissa Rivers were hilarious! Joan was wildly inappropriate, taking a stab at Kirstie Ally and Leighton Meister, but it was hilarious and fun nonetheless. Martha stayed and answered personal questions after the show which was very unexpected. And yes, we received plenty of neat gifts: a vegan baking cookbook, vegan chocolate, a Martha Stewart Collection pillow and case from Macy’s, and a honeywell air purifier.

Here are Sosie and Lauren’s thoughts on the show:

SOSIE: It was the best part of the trip and I loved every minute of it. Seeing celebrities is always fun. I loved the segments they did on that episode, especially the one about the allergy free desserts and foods. I’m allergic to almost everything and it can be frustrating at times. Now I had a cookbook that makes making desserts easier. I was surprised when they said our segment was LIVE! It was a fun atmosphere to be in and getting free stuff wasn’t bad either. Getting to see Martha was amazingly cool, but also getting to see Joan and Melissa Rivers was a treat because they are sooo funny together. I’m really glad we went to the show, and I’m glad we did this trip!

LAUREN: It could not have been better. We got almost $300 of free stuff, and we were front row so we were on TV a bunch of times. It was awesome to see Joan and Melissa Rivers there and just overall an cool experience. Unfortunately, our free pillows got us a lot of attention at their airport.

If you’re ever in New York, I highly recommend going to the show. The tickets are free!ย  This couldn’t have been a better way to end our trip.
